Redbank Gorge - Mt Sonder (Larapinta Trail)

Final day on the trail covered the section to Mt Sonder, a real mountain at 1379m. Who would have thought that NT would have mountains and this one is only the fourth highest in the NT!. We had a cllimb over 700m in the dark in order to catch the sunset. We started walking after 3am by torch light getting up there at 6.15am and it was cold until the sun came up around 7am.. But the sunset was spectacular as was the shadow of the mountain on the valley below and the walk down the mountain with expansive views all around. But the important thing was that we we beat a rival tour group to the top who started before us! Didn't feel well at the time - my stomsch was telling my brain what the heck is he doing at 3am in the morning.
In the afternoon we went to Glen Helen Gorge where there is a waterhole and a pub.
