Hello, back from my walking trip between the towns of Trzic and Begunje, north west of Ljubljana (close to the the Austrian border) with all limbs intact. I did a three day walk along the Slovene Alpine path (Slovenska Planinska Pot) which crosses most of the the mountains in Slovenia and which I have been doing progressively since 1992! I will cover the trip in three blogs. This first one covers day one from Trzic to Dobrci mountain hut (at 1478m above sea level - about 900m above the valley).
The first day was hard, as there was a lot of climbing to get out of the valley but excellent views down and back. Plus, for some reason the track went straight up on occasions instead of following the forest road. The walk was only 3 1/2 hours, so not a long day. Got to the hut and I was the only occupant until two Dutch men came up later when it started raining when the thunderstorms came in. They were doing some ridiculous amount of walking every day but we had a good chat as their English was excellent (as is the case with most Dutch people). It was a nice, smaller hut and the hut warden was really friendly and an excellent cook. For about $50 got a few drinks, dinner, breakfast and accommodation.
