Hello, today's trip was to the Lake Bohinj area again. We walked up the Mostnice gorge, visited the Mostnice waterfall, had lunch at a great mountain hut in the Voje valley (at 732m, then returned to our starting point at the village of Ribčev Laz. We got back to the bus stop just before a thunderstorm came in. A beautiful and varied walk. The food at the hut was traditional and delicious, the blueberry strudle was particularly popular disappearing before our eyes (it was proudly on display). The bus trip back to Radovljica was eventful with a whole lot of people wanting to get on the bus at Lake Bled (going back to the capital, Ljubljana). The driver nearly lost it with the numbers of people asking stupid questions and proferring advice. One of them even asked for a ticket then got off the bus.
Today's excursion was to Lake Bohinj. First it was up the Vogel cable car, which goes up to 1535m, for spectacular views of Lake Bohinj below. There were even patches of snow up there. Then there was a walk to a great mountain restaurant near the source of the Sava River for lunch, then a walk alongside the lake. Spectacular day with great weather.
The bus getting there was quite popular again. Someone even tried paying by credit card. As I said we are staying in Radovljica in a hostel which is more like a hotel and is actually located on the top two floors of the main hotel. We have plenty of room for the two of us; three single beds and a double bed. The sky lights are a bit irritating as you can't close off the light, so we are awake a bit earlier than we would like.
Today we visited the Lake Bled area. We started off with a cream cake (as you do there) and then we walked around the lake with a detour up to the Veliki Ojstrica viewpoint (at 756m). Great views, the track was a bit damp and steep in parts. At one point my nephew came sliding past me on his backside. One way to get down I guess. I have not seen it this busy on this trail for a while, probably the social media phenomenon. On the way back, we also saw quiet a unique fridge for beer (last picture). This afternoon thunderstorms have set in after a nice day in the 20s.
Hello, first day of the tour saw us (me and my nephew) arrive in Radovljica, a pretty alpine town near the Austrian border., not far from the famous Bled and Bohinj lakes. We are using this town for about a week as a base to visit the area. Our visit coincides with a beer festival across the park, so we don't have to be there to hear the music! We ate at a surprisingly expensive restaurant, so it's probably rations for the next few days. On the bus trip up we treated to a conversation between a professional Bulgarian student (based on the number of courses she has done and is doing around the world) and a Belgian who appeared to be at least a part time professional traveller based on the trips she has done and who claimed to travel to another country every weekend. She appeared to have a lot of money, so I was surprised she was on a public bus and not being chauffeur driven but then, I guess, she wouldn't have the opportunity to rub people's faces in it or give them gratuitious travel advice.
Anyway we took a walk around town and to the nearby Sava River, here are the pictures...
